After the European Authority in Aviation Safety‘s decision to suspend all Boeing 737 MAX operations in Europe yesterday, Canada and the United States followed suit today. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a new statement today, ordering “the temporary grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated by U.S. airlines or in U.S. territory,” effective immediately. This is a significant change from the FAA’s stance in the past couple of days when they maintained that they had found “no basis to order grounding the aircraft” even after most other countries and Europe had done so. The grounding will remain in effect while the FAA continues to investigate the two crashes involving Boeing 737 MAX airplanes.
